Chemical Analysis
Tests are performed on Carbon and Low-Alloy steels to the ASTM E415 Standard. We use an Optical Emission Spectrometer that provides the following elements:
C, Mn, P, S, Si, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mo, V, Al, Nb, Ti, B, Ca
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: 3" x 3" or greater with flat, clean surface)
Tensile Testing
Tests are performed to ASTM, JIS, or DIN standards. Test reports include yield, tensile, elongation, n-value (work hardening exponent) and r-value (plastic strain ratio) and rockwell hardness.
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: Flat-12" x 12" / Tube-Full size: 9" minimum in length / Finished or formed part: 9" of flat, clean surface)
Rockwell HardnessTesting
Tests performed to scales: HRB - HRC - Superficial (HR45T - HR30T - HR15T)
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: 4" x 4" or greater with flat, clean surface)
Coating Weight Analysis
Testing on Zinc or Aluminum Coated material is performed using the Weigh-Strip-Weigh method.
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: 6" x 6" or greater with flat, clean surface)
Surface Roughness Analysis
Measurement of the surface irregularities in the surface texture is performed by using a Taylor/Hobson Profilometer.
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: 6" x 6" or greater with flat, clean surface)
Olsen Cup Test
Evaluation of the ductility of sheet materials.
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: 12" x 12" or greater with flat, clean surface)
Double Olsen Coating Test
Quantifies the coating adhesion to the steel. Material is drawn out, then drawn back upon itself. Coating loss is determined by visual comparisons to designated charts.
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: 12" x 12" or greater with flat, clean surface)
Bend Test
Determines whether the metal has sufficient ductility to withstand bending without fracturing.
(*Optimum test sample size/condition: 1" x 6" or greater with flat, clean surface)
*These are guidelines for optimum sizes for related tests. We are able to prepare samples of various sizes for each test, and several tests can be generated from one piece of steel. Please contact us for further details.
Internal Test Procedures
Veltec has developed various customized testing procedures by adapting our current equipment and test methods to recreate our customer's process. We submit our test procedure and results, as well as the customer results, to A2LA for their review. Upon A2LA approval, we are then able to add the new procedure to our Scope of Accreditation which allows us to provide A2LA certified test results.
